A defendant is presumed innocent until or unless found guilty. The enclosed court actions are subject to change.

According to the Rules of Criminal Procedure (RCr 3.02, 3.05, and 8.01), the arraignment of individuals whose case has been submitted directly to the grand jury shall take place within a reasonable time after the return of an indictment. If you are interested in a case that has been submitted directly to the grand jury, then please contact the court division in which it has been assigned to obtain the time and date of the arraignment.


Wathaniel L. Woods – 17CR0935 (Murder, Possession of a Handgun By Convicted Felon, Wanton Endangerment in the First Degree, Trafficking in a Controlled Substance in the First Degree Schedule II Cocaine Less Than Four Grams While in Possession of a Firearm, Illegal Use or Possession of Drug Paraphernalia While in Possession of a Firearm, Fleeing or Evading Police in the First Degree, Operating a Motor Vehicle under the Influence of Intoxicants – First Offense (Aggravating Circumstances), Operation of a Motor Vehicle by a Person Whose Operator’s License Has Been Revoked, Suspended, Cancelled or Denied, Disregarding Official Traffic Control Device and Persistent Felony Offender in the First Degree)

  • Mr. Woods (DOB 03/15/80) was charged as a result of incidents occurring on March 28, 2017 which began with the defendant striking the mother of his child with a gun and his flight from responding police officers and culminated with the defendant first striking pedestrian Douglas Morton and soon thereafter striking the police cruiser being driven by LMPD Officer Nick Rodman.  Morton survived serious physical injuries sustained when struck while Officer Rodman died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the collision.   On Friday, June 15, 2018, Mr. Woods was sentenced to 35 years in prison for his crimes. Elizabeth Jones Brown and Justin Janes are the prosecutors.


Christopher Cruz Olivo – 18CR0202 (Murder [three counts], Kidnapping, Criminal Abuse in the First Degree [two counts], Tampering with Physical Evidence, Unlawful Imprisonment in the First Degree [two counts])

  • Mr. Olivo (DOB 08/04/71) is charged with the shooting death of his longtime girlfriend, Geneva Miles, and her brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Catherine Miles, in their home. Present during the Murders were Michael and Catherine’s two young children, and the young child the defendant shared with Geneva Miles. After the shootings, Mr. Olivo fled to Florida with his daughter, leaving the other two young children in the home with their deceased parents. A first pretrial conference is scheduled for June 21, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. in Division 13 of Jefferson Circuit Court. Madison Shoffner is the prosecutor.

Dawan Mulazim, 14CR2064 (Robbery in the First Degree [two counts], Fleeing or Evading Police in the First Degree, Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon, Persistent Felony Offender)

  • Mr. Mulazim (08/14/83) and his co-defendant Quincinio Canada pleaded guilty to robbing a Circle K employee and the man buffing the floors after-hours at the Circle K at 1000 Portland Avenue on July 25, 2014.  Officer Ed Johnson was at the intersection of Portland Avenue and 22nd Street, and was able to follow the get-away vehicle, in which the defendants fled from Officer Johnson into Indiana where they were apprehended.  Mr. Canada was sentenced to twenty years in prison, the same sentence contemplated by Mr. Mulazim’s plea.  However, Mr. Mulazim filed a motion to set aside his plea, which was granted by Judge Ann Bailey Smith. Both of these defendants have also been charged with a series of robberies in Lexington, one of which resulted in the murder of a Marine and the assault of his wife, and which took place in the weeks leading up to their apprehension on this Jefferson County case; this capital murder case is currently pending in Fayette County. A final pretrial conference is scheduled for June 19 at 9:30 a.m. in Division 13 of Jefferson Circuit Court in contemplation of a July 10 trial date.  Elizabeth Jones Brown is the prosecutor.


Salem Nagdy – 16CR3353 (Kidnapping, Criminal Attempt Murder, Assault in the First Degree, Stalking in the First Degree, Eavesdropping)

  • Mr. Nagdy (DOB 01/23/71) is charged with the Kidnapping and Attempted Murder of his ex-wife. Throughout the assault, the defendant restrained the victim and struck her in the head requiring 86 staples. Prior to the assault the defendant had stalked and recorded his former wife’s conversations. A jury trial is scheduled to begin on June 18, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in Division 3 of Jefferson Circuit Court. Chris Foster and Danielle Yannelli are the prosecutors.

Terrence Downs – 16CR3370 (Murder, Robbery in the First Degree, Possession of Handgun by Convicted Felon, Wanton Endangerment in the First Degree, Tampering with Physical Evidence)

  • Mr. Downs (DOB 11/20/1992) has been indicted in relation to the shooting death of Ronnie Reed on December 10, 2016 in the 6000 block of Guardian Court.  A jury trial is scheduled to begin on June 18, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in Division 10 of Jefferson Circuit Court. Kristi Gray is the prosecutor.

Kenyatta Chappell – 16CR1739 (Assault in the First Degree)

  • Ms. Chappell (DOB 02/21/94) is charged with stabbing Ronkea Wright on November 24, 2014. Ms. Wright, who was 32 weeks pregnant at the time, suffered a collapsed lung. A Trial is scheduled for June 20, 2018 at 9 a.m. in Division 1 of Jefferson Circuit Court. Jennifer Murzyn Yancey is the prosecutor.

John Robert Reichle Jr. – 17CR0069 (Arson in the Second Degree, Criminal Mischief in the First Degree)

  • Mr. Reichle (DOB 06/20/79) is charged with the arson of a residence located at 3809 Ralph Avenue. Mr. Reichle claimed to have been present at that address when he had an agreement to exchange money for sex with two of the residents. Mr. Reichle is believed to have been the last individual in the home before the fire was ignited. A jury trial is scheduled to begin on June 19, 2018 at 9:45 a.m. in Division 2 of Jefferson Circuit Court. Doug Meisel, Lauren Beahl, and Sydney Garrett are the prosecutors.
