Long ago, the Commonwealth’s Attorney made a commitment to remove serious and chronic juvenile offenders from our community. Too frequently our streets become an arena for violence perpetrated by those under 18 years old. Law-abiding residents should not become prisoners in their own homes because of drive-by shootings directed at rival gang members. In 1997, this office established a Juvenile and Gang Unit to aggressively pursue prosecution of juvenile offenders & gang members. Then, we partnered with the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office to institute the successful Unified Special Prosecutions Unit (USPU) which did justice by sending many dangerous youthful offenders to state correctional facilities.<\/p>\n

The Juvenile Crime Liaison, Critt Cunningham<\/a>, screens and reviews all cases involving serious and chronic juvenile offenders and cooperates with the County Attorney’s Office to vigorously prosecute these cases. Externally, the Liaison works to educate the public, teachers, school administrators and the community about serious juvenile crimes and offenders. This same information is provided to law enforcement officers, as well as to school resource and juvenile officers. In conjunction with the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office and the Louisville Metro Police Department, the Juvenile Crime Liaison has continued a pro-active approach toward gang and juvenile crime suppression efforts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
